Thailand is located in Southeast Asia. To the east is Laos and Cambodia. To the south is the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia. To the west is the Andaman Sea and Myanmar. It is the world's 50th largest country by land mass and 28th by population. Major cities in Thailand include Bangkok, which is also the capital, as well as Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Sawan, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Surat Thani, Phuket and Hat Yai.
The north of the country is mountainous with the highest point being over 8000 feet above sea level. There is a plateau to the east. The center of Thailand is predominantly a flat river valley and the south has a short narrow that widens into the peninsula.
The weather in Thailand is typically humid and frequented with monsoons. May to September is southwest monsoon season. Northeast monsoon season is November through March. The southern part of Thailand is always hot and humid.
