The Republic of Singapore in located in Southeast Asia off of the Malay Peninsula. It is made up of 63 islands. It was founded in the second century, and has become incredibly urban in the last few decades.
Singapore was first founded and heavily influenced by the East India Company, which the British then took full control of. After some minor skirmishes involving the Japanese in World War Two, it finally became an internal government. After that it joined other former British territories and became Malaysia. However, eventually it separated and experienced a massive change in fortune. Now a supremely wealthy country, it is considered to be one of the Four Asian Tigers.
It is very densely populated, with over five million people, and over half of them being indigenous. These people are surrounded by a lush green landscape, and are currently reclaiming much of this land to develop space for new businesses and habitat for its growing population.
