THE MISSION AND PURPOSE OF THE NEW RESTRICTED .REXROTH gTLD IS TO BENEFIT INTERNET USERS BY ENSURING INCREASED TRUST AND CONFIDENCE THROUGH THE ASSURANCE OF BRAND AUTHENTICITY.
The new .rexroth gTLD will operate as a restricted registry, in which Bosch Rexroth AG (Rexroth) can create and control domain spaces that promote its brand identity and authenticity. In this regard, the .rexroth gTLD will provide an authoritative internet space to provide information, services and resources relevant to its specialist driving and control technology services to consumers in a way that promotes trust, convenience and utility. Second and third level domains can then be utilised for sales and marketing purposes, with internet users assured of brand authenticity.

Rexroth supplies over 500,000 customers with tailored solutions for driving, controlling and moving under the Rexroth brand. As the Drive & Control company, Rexroth develops, produces and sells its components and systems in over 80 countries spanning across US, Japan and Great Britain in technology fields such as Electric Drives & Controls, Industrial Hydraulics and Assembly Technology. Rexroth meets each specific market's needs and unique characteristics by relying on its leading-edge technology, global partnership and strong responsibility. The .rexroth gTLD will facilitate greater trust and assurance from internet users connecting with Rexroth online, whilst still allowing convenient and efficient interaction.
Rexroth's mission and purpose of the proposed new gTLD share ICANN's initiatives to promote public interest. Rexroth is committed to contribute towards achieving such initiatives in line with ICANN's Affirmation of Commitments, which includes:
- consumer trust: the .rexroth gTLD registry will be operated in a centralised manner with a restrictive registration policy. Registration of domain names will only be available to Rexroth and its affiliate entities, at this stage, which will provide added consumer trust that .rexroth domain names are trustworthy. As .rexroth domain names are subject to registration standards, policies and procedures under Rexroth's control, this eliminates the possibility of malicious conduct within the .rexroth domain space;
- competition: the proposed new gTLD is not intended to instigate competition and consumer choice at the level of registration of domain names among prospective registrants. Instead it is anticipated to contribute to ICANN's initiatives to promote public interest through its operation focused on promoting consumer trust. Increased trust in .rexroth will drive existing and new top level domain (TLD) registry operators to make improvements in mechanisms to improve consumer trust of their TLDs; and
- consumer choice: the proposed new gTLD will enable user-driven improvements and innovations assisting Rexroth's marketing efforts through its ability to create new second and third level domain names on demand. These names will provide the consumers with more choices for interacting with Rexroth. As Rexroth has effective control over the registration and use of domain names under the .rexroth domain space, this will also contribute towards general service innovations on the internet.
Given the restricted nature of the .rexroth gTLD, the projected number of registration is likely to be limited. It is anticipated that a more limited number of between 100 and 200 domain names will be registered in the first few years. However, the number of registrations is likely to increase as Rexroth develops and implements new services and marketing campaigns.
As the new .rexroth gTLD expands and evolves, Rexroth may consider offering the use of second level domain names to its wholesalers or dealers at a later date. In this endeavour, Rexroth will continue to comply with all operational, technical and policy requirements, as well as maintaining consumer trust and the stability of the internet. Rexroth will keep ICANN reasonably informed of any material developments relating to .rexroth including compliance with the continued operations instrument obligations as set out in Specification 8 of the Registry Agreement.
Rexroth will be able to create relevant domain names for use including product, services names in the second or third level domain names. At a later stage, Rexroth may also use geographic names and Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) at the second level in accordance with registration policies and the proposed measures for protection of geographic names as outlined in response to Question 22.
Rexroth is a well-recognised global brand with its about 120 "Rexroth" trademark registered in about 50 countries and territories for the following classes such as Linear Motion Technology, Industrial Hydraulic Controls, Assembly Technology, Electric Drives and Controls, Industrial Hydraulics Cylinders, Transmission Units, Power Units, Manifolds and Hydraulic Accessories, Pneumatics, Mobile Controls, Compact Hydraulics, Mobile Electronics, Pumps and Motors, Large Hydraulic Drives and Wind Turbine Gearboxes.
Further, Rexroth has almost 70 existing domain names with an exact match to the applied-for .rexroth string and its "Rexroth" trademark in spaces including rexroth.com, rexroth.info, rexroth.eu and rexroth.ua. Rexroth also holds additional 46 existing domain names containing the "Rexroth" trademark in spaces such as rexroth-hydraulics.com and Rexroth-funshop.com.
Recently, Rexroth was successful in securing sunrise application for the rexroth.co and rexroth.xxx domain spaces based on existing trademark registration.
Rexroth believes that the .rexroth gTLD is unlikely to cause confusion with either a generic term or any existing TLDs. Rexroth trademarks are a leading global brand for its drive and control technologies with significant reputation worldwide.
