Peru is located in South America and is bordered by the following countries: Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile. It has a large population estimated at 29.5 million that includes Africans, Amerindians, Asians, and Europeans.
Peru has a rich history and culture and was the home of the Inca Empire. Peru has been through years of political unrest and was seized by the Spanish in the 16th century. Spanish is the language most spoken in Peru, but other languages are still spoken by some of the natives. With a poverty level of 31%, it also has very high rates of illiteracy. It also lacks many basic services to parts or the country including education services. It still relies on basic economic activities such as agriculture, fishing, and mining.
There are three sections of the country that include the coast, the mountainous Andes region, and the Amazon rain forest that makes up about 60 percent of the country.
