Nigeria, located in West Africa contains thirty six different states and its Federal Capital Territory. Nigeria borders Niger in the North, Chad and Cameroon in the East, and the Republic of Benin in the west. Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa as well as the seventh most populated country in the world. Nigeria consists of the Niger and the Benue River which empty into the Niger Delta. Niger Delta is one of the world's largest river deltas as well as the location of a large area of Central African Mangroves.
The three most influential ethnic groups in Nigeria are the Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. The main religions in Nigeria are split between Muslims and Christians, although only a small percentage of people actively practice traditional religion. The name Nigeria comes from the Niger River running throughout the country.
